The town of Stratford Upon Avon in Warwickshire is full of culture and history.  Stratford is most famously known as the birthplace of William Shakespeare.  Many Shakespeare related ‘things to do’ can be found in Stratford which give you much more of an insight to his poetry and playwrights.  You can visit the house where William Shakespeare was born and brought up in; Hall’s Croft.  Shakespeare’s daughters home is not far from his childhood home; Nash’s House and New Place, Shakespeare’s final home is also here.  Mary Adren’s Farm which was the childhood home of his mother can also be found in the town along with the world famous Royal Shakespeare’s Company.

Although this is probably the biggest tourist magnet of Stratford Upon Avon, it does offer so much more than Shakespeare.  It is a market town with more than 800 years of history and culture with a bustling community that offers a variety of leisure and shopping experiences to all that visit.

Located between the Royal Shakespeare Theatre and the main shopping area you will find Stratford Canal Basin.  Here you will find boat-based businesses that are permanently moored there. The Canal Basin is surrounded by stunning gardens that are public spaces for visitors to sit and relax in.  Every first and third Saturday of each month a Farmers Market is held in the Market Square at Rother Street and the general market takes place every Friday.

Meer Street, in the Centre of Stratford has a mixture of designer shops and you will even find a store selling old-fashioned toys for the kids.  Stratford’s High Street has the appearance of how the town may have looked in Shakespeare’s time with the black and white Tudor style buildings.  Many of the shops also have signs that are classed as ‘old fashioned’.  Rohde shoes is one of the High Streets shops that has ensured that it’s presence has maintained the traditional landscape.

Stratford has many eateries across the town for you to choose from; a variety of fast food venues such as MacDonald's and Papa Johns, independent restaurants which include Indian, Chinese and Italian as well as well-known chain establishments; Nando’s and Cafe Rouge. Everywhere you look you can find somewhere for a quick snack, whether it be an ice cream, baguette or something to drink.

Children are easily occupied in this bustling town, they can meet Roary the Lion who is Mayor of Jungle Town, a unique soft play area, which is a child-sized town especially designed to encourage role play.  Children of all ages can be entertained at the Recreation Ground, where there is a children’s play area that not only has the usual swings and slides but also has a zip wire and sandpit.  During the hot summer days, they can frolic in the mini pool with water features and a pirate ship.
