From August 8th-15th Sziget Festival takes places in Budapest, Hungary. The ‘Burning Man’ of Europe started in 1993 and each year it has grown to become one of the biggest and most iconic in the world. Last year 496,000 people attended the festival.

Sziget Festival is a week long music and cultural festival that takes over the 266 acre Obuda Island each year. This festival is so much more that your typical music festival, as well as having 9 stages, there are also boat parties, theatre, a circus, art, spirituality, sports, an amusement park, a beach, various chill out areas and many restaurants, bars and coffee houses close by.

When you need a break from all that partying you could take a swim or get a tan at Sziget Beach or have a wonder and explore the Sziget Chapel.

The festival is suitable for all ages, children under 11 years old can even enter for free when they are accompanied by an adult. All children under 14 will be required to wear a wrist and be supervised by an adult. There is also family camping available on the island so that you can make the most of the festival all together as a family. You can even take your “peaceful” pets if you want to. “Peaceful” pets are listed as dogs, ferrets and certain murine-types.

Obviously you don’t have to attend for the full week as there are various tickets available. Choose from individual day passes, 3 day passes, 5 day passes and 7 day passes. Prime passes are also available. Once there ad you realise that you just don’t want the fun to end you can even upgrade certain passes to extend your stay. With so many options you really can’t go wrong.

Many huge names from all genres of the music industry have performed at Sziget Fesitval including the Sex Pistols, Iron Maiden, R.E.M, Jamiroquai, Alanis Morisette, Fatboy Slim, Primal Scream, The Prodigy, Kate Nash, Jethro Tull, The Stone Roses, Run DMC and event he late David Bowie.

This year is looks set to be another big success as once again the organizers have arranged for a variety of performers, bands and groups to entertain the masses.  Across the 9 stages this year you will get the chance to see – Kendrick Lamar, Arctic Monkeys, Mumford & Sons, Gorillaz, Lana Del Rey, Kygo, Likke Li, Shawn Mendes, Stormzy, Clean Bandit, Smokey Joe & The Kid, The Kooks, Liam Gallagher, Goo Goo Dolls and many, many more. There really is something for everyone to enjoy, even those with a more eclectic taste in music. 

Whether you are a festival regular or if this is your first time, Sziget Festival is an all round fantastic experience for you to enjoy as a couple, a family or with friends. You could even get into the spirit early and jump aboard The Sizget Express. This party train departs form Amersfoort and is filled with fun loving festival goers getting ready to have the time of their life while enjoying the on-board bar, DJs and entertainment.
