Barcelona is home to one of the world’s largest music festivals. Visit Barcelona this June for the spectacular Primavera Sound festival.

Primavera Sound festival

The city of Barcelona has many notable cultural attractions but one of the most popular events in the music calendar is the Primavera Sound festival. Since its inception in 2001 this venture has rapidly grown to become one of the largest festivals in the world, featuring a wide range of artists covering an incredible range of genres.

A huge festival

Primavera Sound was first held in 2001 and attracted a relatively modest audience of around 8000. However, last year it was attended by an astonishing 195,000 people. As a uniquely urban Spanish festival it attracts a wide range of visitors, from Barcelona residents to those who travel from overseas to experience this incredible event. Eleven years ago Primavera Sound moved from a smaller location to its current residence at the famous Parc del Forum. This proved to be an ingenious move, not just because of the superior facilities that lend themselves so well to this type of event, but also because this stunning seaside location now gives Primavera Sound such a truly unique feel.

Stellar line-up

One of the main features that makes this festival so popular is the sheer variety of artists on the programme. From underground electric and dance music, hip-hop and rock through to indie and pop, virtually every musical taste is catered for on the eight different stages. The festival prides itself on bringing together not just the music industry’s biggest names but smaller acts looking to make a splash on the scene. This eclectic mix is what keeps the line-up interesting and what has secured Primavera Sound’s reputation as Barcelona’s premier music festival. Arcade Fire, Pixies, Nine Inch Nails, The White Stripe, Wu-Tang Clan, Franz Ferdinand and Lou Reed are just a few of the many artists who have played this festival. The 2016 line-up looks set to be equally impressive, with Radiohead, PJ Harvey, Dinosaur Jr, Suede, and The Last Shadow Puppets already on the programme. Primavera Sound takes place every June, with the 2016 festival running from the 1st to the 5th. Tickets must be purchased in advance and sell out very quickly. With a huge variety of talent on display and acts to appeal to all music-lovers, now would be a good time to arrange discount holidays to Spain and to book your Primavera tickets - there is much to enjoy at this most epic of music festivals.
