There are endless things to do in Tenerife so where do you start? Here are Monster's top 10.
things to do in Tenerife

If you want to escape the dreary British weather and enjoy some short-haul sunshine, there are plenty of things to do in Tenerife. The following are Monster's top 10 picks.

Teide National Park

If there’s one excursion you simply must take it’s a trip to this national park. The scented pine forests give way to the peculiarly fascinating landscape of Mount Teide, the world’s third largest volcano. For truly breath-taking views take the cable car above the crater floor.

Siam Park

This Thai-themed water park is a staple for those enjoying discount holidays to Tenerife. It offers all the usual rides plus a few surprises. Meander down the lazy river or get the adrenalin pumping on the vertical slides. A perfect day out for the family.

Cueva del Viento

Mount Teide is not the only place in which you can see Tenerife’s volcanic legacy. The Cueva del Viento volcanic tubes are a compelling underground labyrinth and make for an unusual walking expedition. Just make sure you travel with a guide!

Masca village

Step back in time with a trip to this gloriously unspoilt village that clings precariously to the side of the mountain. Largely cut off from the world until around forty years ago, this is a delightful place to explore and ideal for a hike.

Anaga Mountains

Go even further back in history with a trip to a small village far away from the influence of tourism. Tiny clusters of caves in the mountain side are home to the region’s residents. An ancient rainforest, steep ravines and gorges plus plenty of dense lush foliage make this a truly enchanting spot.

Garachico

Living in the shadow of a volcano is not without its perils and the 1706 eruption that destroyed almost half the village and harbour could have spelled the end for this pretty town. However, instead enterprising locals made unusual rock pools from the lava debris which are delightful to swim in.

Loro Parque

Sure to be a holiday highlight for the kids, this nature park is home to the world’s largest collection of parrots. There are plenty of animals and much to keep the family occupied here at Tenerife’s oldest theme park.

La Laguna

The island’s former capital, this UNESCO site is a lovely destination for those interested in exploring Tenerife’s past. The colourful buildings are beautifully preserved and the town is packed with delightful restaurants and quirky shops.

Pyramids of Guimar

You don’t have to travel to Egypt to see the pyramids. The Pyramids of Guimar may not be quite as impressive but the very fact of their existence is something of an intriguing mystery.

Los Gigantes

These stunning cliffs are one of the island’s most beautiful natural wonders, not least for their sheer scale. A boat trip in the bay is the best way to appreciate them, and you may be lucky enough to spot some of the dolphins that swim in the nearby waters whilst you’re there. So there you have it; there are plenty of things to do in Tenerife - in addition to basking in the island's glorious sunshine!
