When it comes to booking discount hotels, we are all looking for that little bit extra from our accommodation. But for something truly different, why not try checking into one of the world’s amazing ice hotels?

Probably the best-known ice venue in the world, ICEHOTEL in Jukkasjarvi has been in business for an incredible 25 years. The hotel is built using ice and snow from the nearby Torne River. The beds are built from ice blocks but are surprisingly warm and comfortable with a covering of reindeer skins. A horse riding trip is the perfect way in which to enjoy the spectacular surrounding landscape.

Igloo Village, Finland

Combining a stay in an ice hotel with a trip to see the Northern Lights is surely a dream come true for many of us. One of the best places in which to catch a glimpse of this magical phenomenon is at the Igloo Village Kakslauttanen in Saariselka, Finland. Would-be Eskimos can try two different types of igloo here. The snow versions give the peace and tranquillity you would expect from such surroundings whilst the glass igloos offer incredible views of the clear starry skies and the Northern Lights. Sleigh rides and ice-sculpture classes are just a couple of the activities on offer whilst kids will love a visit to the Santa resort.

Kemi Snowcastle, Finland

The Snow Castle of Kemi is an ice hotel on a truly grand scale. Every season it is rebuilt in a different architectural style so that guests are always guaranteed a unique experience. The exceptional restaurant and spectacular shows held here throughout the season are two of this hotel’s advantages but the real plus is the Castle chapel. If you’re looking for somewhere truly breath-taking to hold your wedding then this could be just the venue.

Hotel de Glace, Canada

Located in Quebec City, this is the place to head if you appreciate snow art and sculpture. In addition to amazing examples of both, this hotel also has a Behind the Scenes tour where you can learn how the hotel is constructed. You can even have a go at making your own cocktail glass at the Ice Workshop, before enjoying some delicious ice cider. Booking a break at one of these incredible ice hotels is sure to be a holiday you will absolutely never forget.
