If you’re looking for a city-break with a difference then Dubai could be just what you’re after. Although further away than some destinations, you can easily combine sight-seeing, leisure and shopping during the ultimate luxury short trip. Here’s our handy guide to the must-see activities.

Dubai city-break

Dubai city-break highlights

The iconic Burj Khalifa is the world’s tallest building and one of the city’s most visited attractions. The observation deck on the 124th floor guarantees breath-taking views of the city, whilst the rest of the building has ample opportunities for sampling the most decadent cuisine. Take some time to admire the spectacular fountains in the nearby lake, which shoot jets of water up to 150m. Jumeirah Mosque, built in the medieval style, is one of Dubai’s most recognisable buildings. Non-Muslims can enter if they visit as part of an organised tour. The stunning man-made islands of the Jumeirah Palm are also worth a look, featuring numerous luxury hotels and impressive marinas.

Saving some money by booking discount flights should allow you to fully enjoy Dubai’s shopping which is absolutely legendary, with giant malls, fabulous boutiques and plenty of local outlets too. High end fashion, jewellery and electrical goods are some of the most popular purchases but pretty much everything under the sun you could wish to buy is available. Even if shopping isn’t your thing the malls are well worth a look. Not only are they equipped with welcome air-conditioning, but boast spectacular restaurants and, in the gargantuan Dubai Mall, an Olympic-sized ice skating rink. One of the many enjoyable activities in Dubai is visiting one of the numerous waterparks. Some of the hotels are attached to these and offer free entry as part of your stay. Two of the most popular are Aquaventure at the Atlantis Hotel and Wild Wadi Water Park, part of the Jumeirah hotel complex. These parks are not just for kids, and have a huge selection of slides, flumes, pools and adrenaline-packed rides. Dubai is also famed for its gorgeous beaches. There is plenty to do in this city but if you do want to just relax and recharge your batteries there are ample spots to choose from. Or for more high-octane adventure, take a half-day desert safari where you can try your hand at camel-riding and dune surfing. Whether you are simply seeking sun in sumptuous surroundings or want an action-packed adventure, a Dubai city-break has it all on offer.
