These days, it’s all too easy to get caught up in the hustle and bustle of modern life and lose sight of your priorities. However, planning a great family holiday should be top of your wish list. But with the world as your oyster, where should you head for the perfect break?

The first thing to do is ascertain exactly what type of holiday will suit your family dynamic. Whether you yearn to relax on a beautiful white beach, learn more about the history and culture of your chosen destination or embark on a thrilling list of activities, there will most certainly be a location that will tick all your boxes.

The Spanish mainland, with its wealth of family-friendly resorts, is a great choice for a sunshine break. Marbella and Benidorm are both set up well for families with children of all ages, and both boast long, clean beaches that are ideal for little ones. Located just over two hours by air from the UK, Spain is extremely accessible, and prices in the restaurants, bars and supermarkets are relatively low, meaning you will get more bang for your buck than you would back in the UK.

Those seeking a cultural dimension to their holiday should factor in a visit to the beautiful cities of Madrid and Barcelona, both of which offer stacks of historical charm.

Similarly, the Balearic Islands (Ibiza, Menorca and Majorca) all offer the ideal set-up for a family break, with lots of lovely beaches and resorts equipped with every imaginable modern convenience.

Majorca is the largest of the three and has the most stunning coastline in the region. Menorca is quieter but no less pretty, and Ibiza is famous for the variety of water sports that are available on its many award-winning beaches.

Another hugely popular destination is the Algarve cost in Portugal. Massive beaches, family-friendly hotels and great weather have all combined to make this area one of the most popular with families from the UK.

Those seeking an energetic break will appreciate the wide range of activities on offer here. These include water sports, golf and horse riding, to name but a few. You will also find a great range of different sorts of accommodation, from luxury hotels to budget apartments, so there is something for all tastes and budgets.

The gorgeous Greek islands are also an ideal location for a great family break. Each of the islands has its own unique character. Those who like to keep busy with plenty to see and do should head for Rhodes, Crete, Corfu or Kos. For a quieter experience, the smaller islands of Kefalonia and Zante should prove ideal.

If you are travelling outside of the summer season, the Canary Islands are an ideal choice. Offering year-round sunshine, the islands have been welcoming visitors from Britain for many years now, and for good reason. Families will find that their every need is catered for, whichever island they choose to visit.
