Are you feeling tired and jaded of your usual holiday choices? Fed up of lazing by the pool or fanning yourself on a beach all day? Are you a couple with completely different ideas of what constitutes a great holiday experience, or a family looking for an all-inclusive package with enough activities to appeal to all of you?

If your answer to any of all of these questions is yes, then maybe it's time to consider a cruise. And if that instantly conjures up images of elderly folk dressing up for dinner at the captain's table after a day spent sitting on deck chairs looking at endless vistas of oceans, then it's time to take a look at modern-day cruising experiences.

Of course, there's a very good reason why cruising was traditionally a holiday choice for the more mature individual. The ability to unpack your luggage and then relax while a variety of holiday destinations are effectively delivered up to you makes them particularly appealing for those not wanting to spend tiring hours on a plane or series of trains. Also, cruises used to be fiercely expensive, putting them out of the reach of young families, but that's no longer true.

Nowadays there are cruise packages carefully tailored to appeal to people of all ages and from all walks of life. Whilst there are still plenty of options for those in search of a gentle, peaceful experience, there are now plenty of modern cruise ships that offer an endless array of activities to keep everyone happy.

Families with young children will find ships geared up to cater for adults, tiny tots and everyone in between, including those hard-to-please teenagers. If you imagine that you're all going to be cooped up together getting on each other's nerves, then you couldn't be further from the truth - childcare facilities, great sporting activities, cinemas, discos, theatres and restaurants cater for all tastes. With younger children kept occupied and teens free to try a range of activities and classes, Mum and Dad can spend a little quality time together - or Mum can head off to the spa while Dad heads for the gym.

Best of all, you get to see a number of places, allowing you to decide where you would like to spend more time on your next holiday. You could find that the city you'd always dreamed of visiting doesn't quite live up to your expectations, but never mind - you're only there for a short time before you head off to your next port of call. Equally, a place that has never featured highly on your 'must-visit' list could turn out to be somewhere that you just know you would love to spend a week or two on a future holiday.

With so many ships offering such a wide variety of cruising options, this could be the time to explore the seas and see for yourself why cruising is becoming so popular.
