If it’s an island paradise you are craving, you won’t find any destination finer than Jamaica. The coast boasts palm-fringed white beaches, turquoise seas, wonderful cuisine and a laid-back reggae atmosphere. Inland you will be treated to the sight of imposing mountains, epic waterfalls and lush plantations. All in all, you will find this to be the perfect holiday destination.

There is, of course, much more to the island of Jamaica than its admittedly staggering good looks. The island has a long and fascinating past, evidence of which is around every corner. From plantations that were originally established in the eighteenth century to imposing architecture from the same period, this is a destination with a many stories to tell. The capital, Kingston, is packed full of wonderful colonial architecture and plenty of museums that explain the history of the island.

When it comes to choosing a resort in which to base yourself, you will be truly spoilt for choice. The largest resorts are Negril, Ocho Rios and, perhaps the most iconic, Montego Bay. These are lively, bustling towns well supplied with high-end hotels and nightclubs plus the more traditional Jamaican infrastructure of reggae cafes and bars and long-established bric-a-brac huts. For an even more chilled-out vibe, head to the totally unspoilt Runaway Bay and Lucea. Here you will stumble across beaches that are all but deserted and enjoy a true feeling of getting away from it all.

Another very popular destination is Negril, which is located on the west of the island. This is where such luminaries as Bob Dylan and Bob Marley came to escape their fame. It has a beach that is seven miles long, lined with a great choice of hotels to cater to all tastes and budgets.

Montego Bay, or Mo’Bay to those in the know, is a picture-perfect Caribbean resort. Second in size to the capital Kingston, there is a huge range of choice of places to stay, places to eat and places to simply relax soak up the atmosphere.

Ocho Rios is a less well-known area, but no less desirable. This huge, purpose-built holiday resort is the home of one of the most photographed sights on the island - the wonderful Dunn River waterfall. It also ticks every box on the perfect Caribbean destination list, with a plethora of great shops, stunning beaches and a huge range of water sports on offer. It’s hardly surprising that many people opt to return to this part of the island year after year.
