Known locally as the ‘Emerald Isle’, Corfu dazzles in shades of blue, white and greens of every hue. The second biggest of the famed Ionian Islands, this wonderful destination is characterised by the swathes of olive trees, wild flowers and cypress trees that adorn its landscape.

Whatever you are looking for in a holiday, you will find it on Corfu. For a quiet relaxing stay, head for San Stefano or to Gouvia on the north of the island. Huge beaches and friendly family run tavernas are the order of the day here.

For a livelier feel, check out Roda and Sidari where you will find some great nightlife and some excellent restaurants. There are a number of secluded coves on this part of the coast, ideally for winding down after a good night out. If you are a real party animal, your ideal destination is most certainly Kavos, where you will be rewarded with plenty of clubs that stay open for most of the night.

Alykes Potamos is a sleepy seaside village on the east coast of the island. It has a very restful atmosphere, with a clean, family friendly beach and some nice places to eat. Backed by dramatic pine forest, this is a particularly stunning part of Corfu. It is ideally situated just 10 miles for Corfu Town.

Gouvia is another great east coast destination. It has a long and interesting history but has managed to keep pace with modern times - and now boasts a smart marina and some fabulous bars and shops. This is a particularly good location if you are hoping to take part in some water-sports.

For a truly relaxing experience, consider visiting Glyfada - which comprises of a pretty beach and a couple of tavernas - and that’s about it. This delightful village on the west coast of Corfu, and is a real hit with walkers, as it has some top quality walking trails that snake around the coast, and is also near enough to Corfu Town for a good night out.

Dassia is where you will get the best of both worlds - with enough shops, restaurants and bars to keep you occupied in the evening, plus a wonderful beach perfect for both water-sports and just chilling out. It sits in a picture perfect location - surrounded by rich green pine forests and with some truly spectacular views across to mainland Greece, best viewed with a glass of chilled white wine as the sun sets.
