If you have kids, it is likely that your trips away need to coordinate with the official school holidays. This can make it tricky to find a good deal during the summer - but why not think outside the box and fly off in search of the sun in the October Half term? Many parts of the world are still pleasantly warm at this time of year - including fantastic family friendly destinations as Greece, Cyprus, Portugal, Spain, the Canary Islands and, if you fancy pushing the boat out - Orlando in Florida.

These days the official holiday season extends well into October, so it really isn’t too late to book a wonderful family getaway for half term.

October is generally pretty mild even here in the UK, so it is easy to imagine how pleasant the weather will be the further south you venture.

The October half term is generally a fairly quiet time in terms of family breaks - with the winter sun market yet to take off, and the height of the summer season gradually tailing off in popular Mediterranean beach resorts, However, this is a plus if you are looking to go away in October, because there are a whole plethora of good value deals to be found for destinations including Majorca and Turkey - places where the sun shines year round and there is always a buzzing tourist trade.

One of the most popular destinations for October half term is one of the many Canary Islands. Although they belong to Spain, they are ideally located just off the coast of Morocco, and the prices to travel and stay in resorts on Tenerife, Gran Canaria, Fuerteventura and Lanzarote are extremely good value at this time of year. With their striking volcanic looks, endless beaches and fantastic variety of both water and land activities - these islands really do make a wonderful destination for families with children of all ages.

For those seeking an element of history and culture - why not consider the Portugal’s beautiful Algarve coast. With picture perfect beaches, enchanting heritage locations, and a whole host of accommodation types to suit every taste and budget- this is a great destination for active families looking for a varied and fun holiday experience.

Other recommended places to visit at this time of year include the Greek Islands - particularly Crete (as it is the furthest south), Majorca, Ibiza and Menorca or of course the perpetually popular Costa Brava.
