February 14th is almost upon us, and if you’re hoping to book a last minute romantic getaway, you need to act quickly. Luckily, there are plenty of picture perfect romantic destinations to appeal to every taste and budget.

Paris is surely the true home of romance. It is blessed with suburb architecture, gorgeous gardens, charming cobbled streets and a multitude of quintessentially French eateries in which to while away evenings the by candlelight. Take a wander down the Champs Elysee hand in hand, travel to the top of the iconic Eiffel Tower to admire the sunset, or simply stroll around and absorb the very special atmosphere.

Rome is equally synonymous with romance, and is perfect for those who like to add a large dose of culture to their mini-breaks. With its ancient historical sites, plus top spots for lovers such as the Trevi Fountain and the epic Coliseum, plus delicious, authentic Italian food, a long weekend in Rome may not seem long enough…

If you fancy a staycation, London has plenty to offer. Stroll down the South Bank, stopping for a ride on the London eye, or how about a brisk walk around Hyde Park followed by afternoon tea at Claridges. In the evenings you will be spoilt for choice when it comes to dining out, with a multitude of restaurants catering for every palate. Walking down the South Bank, criss-crossing the various bridges, is a delightful way to spend a couple of hours. Of course, true romantics will choose to spend an evening in a traditional London pub, curled up with a Guinness next to a roaring fire. If it should snow well all the better.

Venice is another city with a centuries old reputation as a place of romance. Its pretty, narrow streets and stunning architecture, all surrounded by water, makes it a uniquely visually stunning city. Make sure to take a gondola ride at sunset. It is said that couples that kiss as the boat passes under the famous Bridge of Sighs will be granted the gift of eternal love.

New York has always been a top choice for a valentine’s weekend. The weather is still wintry, so is perfect for a cosy carriage ride through central Park, or take a turn round the ice-skating rink at Rockefeller Centre. Hit Broadway in the evening to watch one of many award winning shows, or travel up the Empire State Building to appreciate the breath-taking site of NYC by night. And, of course, don’t forget to shop until you drop!
